Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport launches ticketless parking system to improve traveler experience

SANTA ROSA, CA | June 01, 2026

Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport (STS) today announced the launch of a new ticketless parking system that allows travelers to enter and exit airport parking lots without stopping for tickets or payment kiosks. Powered by Metropolis’ computer vision technology, the new system is designed to make parking faster and more convenient.

After a one-time sign-up, travelers can simply drive in and out of the airport’s parking lots. Payments are processed automatically and receipts sent electronically.

The new system, which debuted today, is designed to simplify parking at STS as passenger traffic increases. With recent route expansions from Alaska Airlines, the commencement of service by Southwest Airlines, and the upcoming arrival of Delta Air Lines, the airport is focused on making the travel experience more efficient while optimizing the use of its parking areas.

“STS has always been known for its ease of use and convenience for local travelers,” said Jon Stout, airport manager. “As the airport continues to grow, we want to make sure the experience remains simple from the moment passengers arrive. Partnering with Metropolis allows us to give travelers a faster, more convenient way to start and end their trip.”

Metropolis’ computer vision platform recognizes vehicles as they enter and exit parking facilities, enabling a checkout-free payment experience. The technology is designed to reduce friction, improve traffic flow and give airports greater visibility into parking usage and demand.

STS is the first airport in California to install Metropolis’ drive-in, drive-out parking technology. The system was introduced at San Antonio International Airport last year.

The new system will also streamline STS’ existing parking reservation experience, making it easier for travelers to plan ahead while supporting more efficient parking operations. Travelers can enroll by scanning a QR code posted at the parking lot entrance and creating an account through the Metropolis app.

Travelers can continue to reserve and prepay for parking at either the terminal or shuttle parking options by visiting sonomacountyairport.org/passengers/parking.

With parking demand expected to remain high during the busy summer and early fall travel season, STS strongly encourages travelers to reserve parking in advance at sonomacountyairport.org/passengers/parking. Parking reservations provide the best assurance that a space will be available at the airport and can help travelers avoid last-minute delays before their flight. Travelers are also encouraged to consider public transit, airport shuttle services, rideshare options, taxis, or drop-off arrangements when planning their trip to the airport.
