Integrated Waste is a division of Sonoma Public Infrastructure and provides ecological solutions to solid waste disposal, natural gas recovery, electrical generation, recycling, and community hazardous waste disposal.

The Integrated Waste Division owns numerous solid waste facilities across the County including the Sonoma County Central Disposal Site (CDS) and five (5) refuse transfer stations, operated by Republic Services in a public-private partnership. These sites house facilities for recycling and material reuse along with natural gas and electrical generation at the CDS.  The Division also oversees the regulation of two commercial hauling companies and maintains seven (7) closed landfills.

Funding

The Integrated Waste Division is funded by usage fees from the Central Disposal Site and Transfer Stations, as well as franchise fees from waste hauling companies. It uses these funds for activities such as maintaining closed landfills and providing oversight of operational and collection contracts.

Proposed Sonoma County Compost Facility

Sonoma County is exploring a proposed compost facility on County-owned land at 5200 Slusser Road in Windsor to process local organic waste collected in residential green bins. The facility would use modern systems designed to control odors and manage stormwater and leachate while reducing truck travel and supporting California’s SB 1383 organics recycling requirements. The project is still in the proposal stage, and environmental review and public input will occur before any final decisions are made.
