What’s Happening
The Geyserville Streetscape Project is currently in Phase 1, a feasibility study to evaluate existing conditions, develop concept alternatives, and explore potential improvements to enhance safety and accessibility for pedestrians and bicyclists in downtown Geyserville. The study is being prepared by W-Trans for Sonoma County Public Infrastructure. Funding has been secured to support subsequent phases of design and construction, which are anticipated to follow completion of the study.
How We Got Here
Downtown Geyserville includes infrastructure along State Route 128/Geyserville Avenue such as sidewalks, lighting, signage, ADA access, and parking, some of which has not been significantly upgraded in recent decades. Sonoma County Public Infrastructure initiated a feasibility study to work with County staff and local stakeholders to explore potential streetscape improvements for the corridor. The study includes review of existing conditions, community outreach, concept development, and preparation of concept-level plans and cost estimates.
The study area includes approximately 3,600 feet of Geyserville Avenue between Geyser Ridge and Walden Avenue, as well as portions of State Route 128 between Geyserville Avenue and the railroad tracks. The feasibility study is intended to inform potential future project phases and support ongoing planning and funding efforts.
Why It Matters
Geyserville is a historic unincorporated community in northern Sonoma County with an active downtown that serves residents, visitors, and local businesses. Existing conditions, including narrow sidewalks and limited accessible infrastructure, can present challenges for pedestrians and bicyclists, particularly older adults and people with disabilities.
The project is intended to explore improvements such as ADA-compliant sidewalks, curb ramps, crosswalk enhancements, bicycle facilities, signage, lighting, and traffic calming features. Potential improvements will be evaluated through the feasibility study process, with consideration given to maintaining on-street parking where feasible.
What’s Next
Phase 1 will result in a feasibility study that documents existing conditions, summarizes community input, and presents concept alternatives and planning-level cost estimates to inform subsequent phases.
Following completion of the study, the project is anticipated to advance into Phase 2 (design) and then Phase 3 (construction). While funding has been secured to support these phases, the final scope, schedule, and construction timing will depend on available funding, environmental review, agency coordination, and required approvals.
Information about upcoming community outreach events and materials will be posted here as they become available.
