Geyserville Community Plaza

What’s Happening

The Geyserville Community Plaza Project is led by Sonoma Public Infrastructure (SPI) to turn a County-owned lot in downtown Geyserville into a safe, easy-to-use, and welcoming public space. The plan is to upgrade the current Park and Ride parking lot into a community plaza that keeps needed parking, creates room for local events, and serves people using the Great Redwood Trail. Questa Engineering Corporation is designing the project.

How we got here

In 2008, the site was updated with parking, signs, and lighting, along with a few simple plaza features. Over the years, it has also hosted community events like the Fall Colors festival and the Holiday Tractor Parade. The community has long wanted a more useful gathering place with better amenities. To move that vision forward, SPI worked with the Geyserville Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) and local partners to gather ideas and create a plan. That work led to the 2023 Geyserville Community Plaza Conceptual Plan, which lays out a shared vision for a safe, inclusive, and environmentally thoughtful plaza.

Why It Matters

The project is in the unincorporated community of Geyserville in Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley. With a population of approximately 804 residents, Geyserville is a popular destination known for its restaurants, shops, artistic community, and strong connection to the local wine industry. Despite its popularity, the town currently lacks any formal public open space within four miles of the downtown core. The proposed plaza will fill this gap by providing a safe and welcoming outdoor gathering space that serves residents, visitors, and users of the Great Redwood Trail.

What’s Next

We are currently doing environmental, topographic, and boundary surveys while the design reaches 30% completion. There will be several chances for the public to share input as the project moves forward. We’ll post details about upcoming community meetings and outreach events here once they’re scheduled.

Project Support

Funding for the Geyserville Community Plaza Project is provided by the California State Coastal Conservancy and the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District. We appreciate their support in advancing this community-driven project.
