Kendall Gutt with her backpack hiking Kendall began her educational journey at Sonoma State University, earning a degree in Environmental Studies and a minor in Women and Gender Studies. During her time at SSU, she was most intrigued by systems of oppression and their relation to environmentalism and the climate crisis.

Early in her career, she worked with local agencies and nonprofits to teach environmental education to youth through field trips and summer camps, as well as leading hikes for Sonoma County residents. Her youth programs along the San Pablo Bay were made free and provided transportation for low-income and Latino youth, many of which attended summer camp for the first time. Her hiking programs around the county demonstrated the restorative aspects of nature through slow movement, nature journaling, and sun rituals.

Kendall is currently a Stewardship Assistant at Ag + Open Space, a land conservation agency that permanently protects the agricultural, natural resource, and scenic open space lands of Sonoma County for future generations. In her role, she works with farmers, environmental non-profits, and local agencies to conserve and restore local lands. She is also the co-chair of the DEI Committee, which is implementing a road map to ensure our mission serves minority communities.

Kendall is an active volunteer in her community and loves to meet people with shared interests and values. As a volunteer with the League of Women Voters, she visits high school classrooms and empowers youth to vote by registering them, providing them with reliable resources, and teaching why their vote matters. She also volunteers with the Good Fire Alliance, Sonoma County’s prescribed burn association. Her work in prescribed fire reduces wildfire risk, improves natural resources, and restores fire-adapted ecosystems.

In her free-time, you can find Kendall gardening in her yard, cooking for friends and loved ones, or hiking in new countries.
