Sonoma County Board of Supervisors to hold workshop on turf fields

SANTA ROSA, CA | December 10, 2025

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors will hold an athletic field turf workshop on Tuesday, Dec. 16 in the Board Chambers. The purpose of the workshop is to explore the benefits and drawbacks of artificial turf and natural turf athletic fields.

What: Athletic Field Turf Workshop
When: Tuesday, Dec. 16, no earlier than 10 a.m.
Where: Board of Supervisors Chambers, 575 Administration Dr., Santa Rosa

At the workshop, Sonoma County Regional Parks will provide an update of its current athletic turf field inventory and future planned athletic fields. Ag + Open Space will provide updates on the current athletic field grants that have been approved and a discussion about the current grant criteria. The presentation will also include an update from the recent action by Zero Waste Sonoma directing their staff to develop a model ordinance to ban or place a moratorium on artificial turf and provide information about the benefits and drawbacks of artificial and natural turf materials for athletic fields.
