Sonoma County advances equitable electric vehicle charging plan
SANTA ROSA, CA | November 10, 2025
The County of Sonoma is seeking community feedback on the Sonoma County EV Master Plan survey, an interactive map that shows existing and potential electric vehicle charging locations. Residents, including both current EV drivers and those who do not yet own an EV, are invited to share input based on their own travel patterns, access to charging, and anticipated EV use to help shape where future charging stations may be most needed. The survey will remain open for feedback through the end of January 2026 and will inform the County’s Equitable Electric Vehicle Charging Plan.
Under a grant from the California Department of Transportation, Sonoma County has launched an effort in partnership with Kittelson & Associates, the Sonoma County Transportation and Climate Authorities, and Latino Service Providers to shape equitable access to public electric vehicle charging across the region.
The project focuses on identifying where charging infrastructure is most needed and how it can best serve both urban and rural communities, with special attention to disadvantaged and underserved areas. Using technical analysis, community engagement, and regional coordination, the initiative will produce a data-driven roadmap to guide future investments in EV charging access.
The Equitable EV Charging Plan will evaluate travel patterns, land use, and infrastructure readiness to identify priority areas for new charging stations, and it will include recommendations to support local jurisdictions and community-based organizations working to expand access. This work supports Sonoma County’s broader climate and mobility goals by promoting zero-emission transportation options and ensuring that all residents can participate in and benefit from the transition to cleaner technologies.
