Petaluma businesses achieve California Green Business certification, advancing local sustainability leadership
SANTA ROSA, CA | May 01, 2026
A group of 16 Petaluma businesses has earned California Green Business Certification, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence. The certifications were achieved with support from Cool Petaluma, the City of Petaluma, and the County of Sonoma Energy and Sustainability Team.
To become certified, each business met rigorous statewide standards across key areas including energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, pollution prevention, and sustainable purchasing. These efforts not only reduce environmental impact but also help businesses lower operating costs, improve workplace health, and meet growing consumer demand for environmentally responsible services.
Participating businesses engaged in a peer-to-peer cohort, working collaboratively to share insights, navigate requirements, and support one another through certification. This collaborative approach helped streamline the process and build a stronger network of sustainability-minded businesses within the Petaluma community.
“Earning California Green Business Certification is a meaningful accomplishment,” said Supervisor Rebecca Hermosillo, chair of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors. “These businesses are taking real, measurable steps to operate more efficiently and sustainably, while setting an example for others in the community.”
The newly certified businesses join a network of recognized leaders across California who are helping drive progress toward climate goals while strengthening the local economy. Their actions contribute to reduced greenhouse gas emissions, conservation of natural resources, and a healthier environment for residents and visitors alike.
A community celebration recognizing these businesses will take place on Tuesday, May 12 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Crooked Goat Brewing in Petaluma. The event is free to attend.
The achievement reflects the growing momentum among Sonoma County businesses to integrate sustainability into everyday operations and highlights the impact local businesses can have in building a more resilient and environmentally responsible future.
