Joshua A. Myers selected as Sonoma County Counsel

SANTA ROSA, CA | December 17, 2025

Joshua A. Myers, a seasoned attorney with more than two decades of experience, including 16 years with the County of Sonoma, has been appointed County Counsel.

Most recently serving as Chief Deputy County Counsel, Myers was selected after a nationwide search. He will take over for County Counsel Robert Pittman, who is retiring.

Myers will lead the Sonoma County Counsel’s Office, which acts as the legal adviser to the Board of Supervisors, as well as the 29 departments and special districts throughout the County. His responsibilities will include providing real-time legal advice during Board of Supervisors meetings, overseeing the work of in-house attorneys and outside counsel on legal matters involving public liability, labor, land use and environmental compliance, law enforcement, healthcare, probate, public works, special districts, and contract negotiation and review.

Before joining the County of Sonoma in 2009, Myers worked for law firms in Santa Rosa and in New Mexico. He has a law degree from the University of New Mexico.

Myers’ appointment will be presented to the Board of Supervisors for approval on Jan. 13, and his anticipated swearing in will occur on Jan. 27. His annual base salary will be approximately $303,092.
