Candidate nomination period opens February 9 for June 2 Statewide Direct Primary Election

Candidate nominations open February 9 and close March 6 for federal, state, judicial, school, and county offices up for election in the June 2 Statewide Direct Primary Election, Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Evelyn Mendez announced today. The offices up for election are as follows:

  • Federal: United States Representative, 1st, 2nd and 4th Districts
  • State: Governor | Lieutenant Governor | Secretary of State | Controller | Treasurer | Attorney General | Insurance Commissioner | Member, Board of Equalization, 2nd District | State Senator, 2nd District | Member of the State Assembly, 2nd, 4th, and 12th Districts
  • Judicial: Judge of the Superior Court Offices 2, 8, 9, 10 and 12✱
  • School: State Superintendent of Public Instruction | County Superintendent of Schools
  • County: Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector | County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor | County Supervisor, 2nd and 4th Districts

✱Candidates for Judge of the Superior Court offices must have already paid their filing fee and filed a Declaration of Intention between Jan. 26 and Feb. 4 in order to file nomination paperwork between Feb. 9 and March 6. Exception: If a filing fee was not paid and a Declaration of Intention was not filed by an incumbent Superior Court Judge by close of business on Feb. 4, candidates other than the incumbent have until Feb. 9 to pay their filing fee and file a Declaration of Intention.

Registered voters in Sonoma County who want to run for any of the aforementioned offices must file nomination paperwork in person at the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office by close of business on March 6. If nomination papers for an eligible incumbent are not filed by close of business on March 6, the deadline to file for that office for anyone other than the incumbent is extended until close of business on March 11.

The Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (except for county holidays like Lincoln’s Birthday on Feb. 12 and Presidents Day on Feb. 16). Please note that the Office has moved. It is now located at 3880 Brickway Blvd, Santa Rosa, CA 95403.
