Ballots for the November 3 General Election will begin going out in the mail today to all active, registered voters in Sonoma County, according to Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Evelyn Mendez. The ballots are expected to take between three and 10 days to arrive.

Also beginning today, any registered voter who resides in Sonoma County may pick up a Vote-by-Mail ballot early or vote in person at the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office, now located at 3880 Brickway Blvd., Santa Rosa, CA 95403. Any registered voter who resides in Sonoma County can also authorize somebody else to pick up a Vote-by-Mail ballot for them at the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office by filling out an Application to Provide Vote-by-Mail Ballot to Representative.

There are three main ways a voter can return their Vote-by-Mail ballot:

  1. Send it back in the mail. In order to count, it must be postmarked on or before Election Day (November 3).
    Important Message About Postmarks
The United States Postal Service (USPS) can no longer guarantee that mail returned to USPS collection boxes will be postmarked the same day it is retrieved. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that voters not place their ballots in USPS collection boxes on Election Day (November 3) or the day before Election Day (November 2). Instead, voters should either:
    • Go to a physical post office location during business hours and request that a postal employee manually postmark their ballot.
    • Use a private mail delivery service.
  2. Drop it in one of 23 Official Ballot Drop Boxes throughout the County. All Official Ballot Drop Boxes are open and will remain open 24/7 until 8 p.m. on Election Day (November 3).
  3. Take it to any open Vote Center in the County. Seven Vote Centers will be open daily from Oct. 24 to Oct. 30, and 32 Vote Centers (the original seven plus 25 more) will be open daily from Oct. 31 to Election Day (November 3).
