Sonoma County encourages secure online property tax payments
SANTA ROSA, CA | April 01, 2026
The Sonoma County Auditor‑Controller‑Treasurer‑Tax Collector’s Office is reminding taxpayers to use secure payment methods for their property taxes, as check‑fraud involving mailed payments continues to increase. The reminder comes in advance of the deadline for the second installment of secured property taxes, which must be paid by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 10.
“Our goal is to make paying property taxes safe, convenient, and accessible for every resident. Paying online, by phone or in‑person ensures taxpayer payments are received safely and without delay,” said Auditor‑Controller‑ Treasurer‑Tax Collector Erick Roeser.
Secure online payment options:
- Free e‑Check (recommended) - Pay directly from your checking or savings account at no cost.
- Credit card - 2.34% transaction fee applies
- Debit card - 2.34% transaction fee applies
- Monthly payment plan (Easy Smart Pay) - Free e‑check or 1.99% fee for card payments
Other Secure Payment Options:
- By phone at 1-888-636-8418 - Free e-Check or 2.34% fee for card payments
- In‑person at 585 Fiscal Drive, Suite 100, Santa Rosa, Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Payments accepted by check, cashier’s check, money order, cash and credit or debit card.
Taxpayers are encouraged to avoid mailing checks when possible and choose secure online, by phone or in‑person options instead.
If you choose to pay by mail, please note the U.S. Postal Service now postmarks mail based on when it arrives at a regional processing facility—not when it’s dropped off locally. This means your postmark date may be later than your mailing date and could result in a late payment. A valid USPS postmark is still required for the payment to be considered timely.
