Sonoma County Milk and Dairy Program

Sonoma County is one of eight counties in California designated as an Approved Milk Inspection Service by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA).  We work to ensure the safety and quality of dairy products consumed by the public.

Sonoma County Registered Dairy Inspectors are responsible for the inspection and permitting of all dairy farms located in Sonoma and Marin Counties, including cow, goat, sheep and water buffalo dairies.  We also oversee all retail semi frozen product machines in Sonoma County, including soft serve ice cream and frozen yogurt.  Routine milk and soft serve samples obtained from our permitted farms and licensed soft serve machines are tested to ensure acceptable bacteriological quality at the Sonoma County Public Health Laboratory.

Our program is overseen by the CDFA Milk and Dairy Food Safety Branch and the US Food and Drug Administration.
