For Immediate Release
Board of Supervisors to hold TRUTH Act Forum on May 12 to review Sheriff’s Office interactions with ICE
SANTA ROSA, CA | May 06, 2026
Sonoma County residents are invited to attend a public forum on May 12 to review the Sheriff’s Office’s interactions with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and provide input to local leaders.
The TRUTH Act Community Forum will take place at 5:30 p.m. during a special meeting of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors in the Board Chambers at 575 Administration Drive in Santa Rosa. The forum will also be streamed live on Zoom. Spanish interpretation will be provided in person and online.
The annual forum is required under California’s Transparent Review of Unjust Transfers and Holds Act, which requires local jurisdictions to hold a public meeting if law enforcement agencies shared information with federal immigration authorities in the prior year about individuals incarcerated in county detention facilities. The forum provides an opportunity for the public to review that information and offer comment.
State law strictly limits interactions with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office does not enforce federal immigration law, honor immigration detainers or ask individuals about their immigration status for enforcement purposes. In limited cases defined by state law, the jail may notify ICE when someone charged with or convicted of certain serious or violent crimes is scheduled to be released. An individual may be transferred to ICE custody only if a judge has issued a warrant.
In 2025, ICE made 601 requests to be notified when individuals in County custody were scheduled for release. The Sheriff’s Office responded to 69 of those requests. One individual was transferred to ICE custody based on a federal warrant. ICE also made 20 arrests in the jail. No ICE interviews were conducted inside the jail.
The Board of Supervisors will not take formal action at the meeting but will receive the Sheriff’s report and hear public comment.
More information, including meeting materials, is available online at the Board of Supervisors agenda for the meeting.
