Commission on Human Rights Statement on Law Enforcement Oversight and Accountability

The Sonoma County Human Rights Commission (CHR) believes that trust between law enforcement and the community is foundational to a healthy, safe, and free society. Our county’s law enforcement agencies (LEA) publicly declare commitments to professionalism, fairness, compassion, integrity, and respect. These are values we strongly support. Yet the lived experiences of many residents, and the structural challenges faced by our local oversight systems, show that these commitments are not consistently upheld. Read full story

Commission on Human Rights Statement on Food Insecurity In Sonoma County

The Board of Supervisors is currently considering executing a funding agreement with the Redwood Empire Food Bank in an amount up to $200,000 for the month of November, in response to the federal government shutting down CalFresh (SNAP) benefits as of November 1, 2025. However, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) feels this is underserving the 43,000 residents affected, when comparing Napa County’s approval of $1 million in funds to serve their 10,700 affected residents for November and December 2025. Deadline for voters to cure ballot signature issues is December 1 at 5 p.m.

Signature “cure” forms that were sent to voters whose ballot envelope signatures were either missing or mismatched for the November 4 Statewide Special Election must be completed and received at the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office no later than Monday, December 1, at 5 p.m., according to Evelyn Mendez, Sonoma County Registrar of Voters. Office of Traffic Safety awards grant to the Sonoma County Probation Department for intensive supervision program for high-risk DUI offenders

The Sonoma County Probation Department announced today that it has received a $261,500 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety for an intensive probation supervision program for high-risk individuals with multiple DUI convictions. The grant program runs through September 2026. Read full story

Sonoma County advances equitable electric vehicle charging plan

The County of Sonoma is seeking community feedback on the Sonoma County EV Master Plan survey, an interactive map that shows existing and potential electric vehicle charging locations. Residents, including both current EV drivers and those who do not yet own an EV, are invited to share input based on their own travel patterns, access to charging, and anticipated EV use to help shape where future charging stations may be most needed. The survey will remain open for feedback through the end of January 2026 and will inform the County’s Equitable Electric Vehicle Charging Plan. Read full story
