If You Found a Pet

Cats are free to roam. Those brought to the shelter will be evaluated by staff prior to acceptance and you may be required to return the cat to the area where it was found.

We accept stray cats during business hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., under the following circumstances:

  • Altered and microchipped
  • Unaltered
  • Sick or injured
  • Kittens without a mother

We do not accept cats that meet the following criteria:

  • Healthy and altered with no microchip
  • Cats that have a tipped ear, as they are typically community or feral cats

If the found cat is injured or ill during our non-business hours, please confine the cat and call your local non-emergency law enforcement number. An Animal Services Officer will be dispatched to pick up the cat. The cat can also be taken to a 24-hour veterinary clinic or hospital.

Found Community Cats

Community cats are unsocialized cats without owners, and are often afraid of people. These cats are also known as feral cats. If you find a community cat without a tipped ear, then review the information on Spay and Neuter page.

If you find a community cat with a tipped ear, it has been spayed or neutered and returned to its environment. Please leave it where you found it, unless it is sick or injured.

If you need help with community cats, please contact Forgotten Felines.
