Innovation Services & Special Project
The Innovation and Special Projects Division of the Information Systems Department (ISD) partners with Sonoma County departments to advance the adoption of modern technologies and best practices.
The division focuses on agile, phased implementations that deliver targeted solutions for high-priority initiatives. These projects enhance efficiency, transparency, and service delivery through tools such as multi-partner data exchanges, machine learning, artificial intelligence, hybrid cloud platforms, and collaborative digital portals with advanced analytics.
Notable initiatives include working with the Safety Net Collaborative and Justice partners to integrate data from multiple systems for a holistic view of individuals with complex needs, embedding electronic workflows and digital signatures into enterprise applications, and collaborating with enterprise architects to design a modern, cloud-based justice exchange and hub.
Within this division, Records Management plays a key role in ensuring operational efficiency and compliance across the County. The Records Management Team oversees the County Records Center, managing the full lifecycle of records—from retrieval and refiling to secure disposition—while partnering with departments to modernize retention schedules in line with state law. By providing scanning services, electronic form development, and digital imaging through the OnBase system, the team enables a shift from paper-based to fully digital processes.
These combined efforts ensure that critical information is securely managed, preserved, and readily accessible, strengthening both internal operations and public service delivery. Together, Innovation and Special Projects integrates new technologies and standards to foster collaboration, reduce costs, and improve responsiveness to the evolving needs of the community while supporting the County’s strategic technology goals.
