Sonoma County updates health advisory due to poor air quality caused by the Woodside Fire
8:15 P.M. UPDATE: Conditions are changing quickly and the air quality conditions have evolved to "hazardous" and "very unhealthy" levels. The Sonoma County Health Officer today issued the following health advisory: Areas of Sonoma County may experience "very unhealthy" or "hazardous" air quality caused by the wildfire event along the coast near Timber Cove and Salt Point State Park. People may experience adverse health effects from the smoke over Sonoma County and across the region. Below are some things you can do when the air quality is poor. Read full story
Santa Rosa Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Domestic-Violence Murder
Tunoa Radaiga Meo, 54 years old, of Santa Rosa, was sentenced today, by the Honorable Kenneth English. Meo’s sentencing follows the conclusion of a jury trial earlier this year in which he was convicted of first-degree murder stemming from an incident on July 4, 2023, in which he killed his wife, Marica Mara. Meo was sentenced to serve a term in the state prison of 1 year plus 25-years-to-life in prison. Read full story

Santa Rosa Man Sentenced to Prison for Pimping and Other Crimes
Defendant Arnulfo Favian Montes-Medina, 38-years-old of Santa Rosa was sentenced today by the Honorable Lynnette Brown to 1 year in county jail followed by 4 years of formal probation, following his conviction by a Sonoma County jury for felony domestic violence. The jury also found true that Montes-Medina personally used a deadly weapon during the assault, and personally inflicted great bodily injury upon the victim. Read full story

Creative Sonoma announces grant program supporting nonprofit arts producers
Creative Sonoma’s Arts Impact Grants for Organizations program will begin accepting applications on Aug. 14 to support cultural arts activities taking place across Sonoma County between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2027. Nonprofit arts and culture organizations including museums, as well as culturally specific organizations that produce arts and culture programs, services and events are eligible to apply. Up to 45 organizations will be awarded grants of $4,000 each for general operating support. Read full story
Labor Trafficking and Wage Theft Bill Proposed and Sponsored by Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office Signed Into Law
Sonoma County District Attorney Carla Rodriguez announced today that Governor Gavin Newsom has signed AB 1583 into law, an anti-labor trafficking and wage theft bill drafted by her office and co-sponsored by the Los Angeles County District Attorneys’ Office. The new law was authored by Assemblymember Chris Rogers (D-Santa Rosa) and passed the state legislature unanimously. It will take effect January 1, 2027. Read full story

Man Sentenced to Life Without Parole in 1982 Cloverdale Murder Case
Defendant James Oliver Unick, 64-years-old of Willows, CA, was sentenced this afternoon by the Honorable Laura Passaglia to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole after a Sonoma County jury found him guilty as charged in February of first degree murder and a special circumstance related to the sexual assault that occurred during the commission of the murder. Board of Supervisors places parks sales tax renewal measure on November ballot
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors voted to place a November ballot measure before voters to renew the existing Measure M parks sales tax, which, if approved, would continue funding for regional and city parks without increasing the current tax rate. Read full story
